posted Dec 19, 2018, 3:44 PM by Gord Donaldson

Mark your calendars for Saturday January 19th at 4:30pm.  Our Parent Council is hosting a Maple Grove Family Skate at Joshua's Creek Arenas (1663 North Service Rd E, Oakville, ON).  You are invited to come with your family to enjoy a free skate.  Anyone under the age of 18 must have their own helmet to be allowed on the ice.  We look forward to another great community event put on by our council.

Pajama and Socks Drive

posted Nov 22, 2018, 7:44 AM by Gord Donaldson   [ updated Nov 22, 2018, 7:44 AM ]

Did you know that over 18,680 people live below the poverty level here in Oakville? They live with the daily struggle of not being able to provide for their families which can lead to hopelessness, and despair. This year Maple Grove is continuing to support the Pyjama and Sock Drive to help support our community. Last year we collected 394 pairs of pyjamas and socks. Can we beat the record this year?  We have 580 students at Maple Grove, so we hope to get at least 580 items this year!

MG Parent Council is excited to announce we are bringing back MGPS Dance-A-Thon on Friday, November 16th!  Students are sponsored by family and friends to have fun letting loose and dancing to music arranged by our popular DJ and Dance Assistant!

All money raised will go towards creating an Outdoor Classroom Space for all students to enjoy.  We are hoping to raise enough funds to get this project going and are very excited about creating a learning space for all students to be able to participate and receive the many wonderful benefits of an Outdoor Classroom!  Our goal is to raise approximately $30 per student.

PLEASE SEE BELOW for more information on the Dance-A-Thon, to learn about the benefits of an Outdoor Classroom, the pledge form is attached to this message (for cash and cheques only), and for information on fun prizes to be given out to students for raising $30 and the most funds as a class!  We will also have a Glow Store on the day of the Dance-A-Thon so bring loonies and toonies for fun glow items and treats.

The easiest way to donate is through https://www.schoolcashonline.com by clicking on the “Make A Donation” tab.  Detailed directions are given below.  A tax receipt will automatically be generated and instantly emailed to you directly on donations over $20, and no pledge form is necessary for online donations!

- Click on the “Make A Donation” tab
- Specify a Dollar Amount
- Click on the drop down menu of “Select a Fund Destination”
- Choose “Maple Grove PS”
- In the space provided under “Message to School Board”, type “Dance” and Your Child’s Full Name and Class Number.

We will also need parent volunteers for the day of the MGPS Dance-A-Thon.  Please consider volunteering your time for an hour by signing up for a time spot on http://signup.com/go/buvMxYN.

Thank you for your support!

Welcome Back BBQ

posted Sep 13, 2018, 8:06 AM by Gord Donaldson

We have scheduled our Welcome Back BBQ and Open House scheduled for Wednesday, September 26th.  Parents and students are welcome to join us as early as 5:00pm for dinner.  We will have some tables set up, but not nearly enough for the whole school, so please feel free to bring a blanket and have a family picnic!  To avoid the long lines, plan on coming early and connect with others in our school community on the playground area.  Dinner will finish promptly at 6:30pm.

We have Troy's Catering coming to the event, and they will set up on our blacktop and offer a variety of items for dinner.  Pre-ordering or pre-payment is not necessary. See below for a list of menu items.

At 6:30pm, but not sooner, parents and students will be welcomed into the school to visit classrooms and meet teachers.  There will be a "Scavenger Hunt" of sorts with a draw for prizes to be redeemed at the Book Fair in November.  The evening will finish up at 7:30pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Menu Items:
BBQ School Menu
Hamburgers $5.00
Cheese Burgers $6.00
Jumbo Hotdog $3.75

Class Lists are posted below. You will need your child's Ontario Education Number (OEN) or their Halton Student ID Number in order to find out in which class they have been placed. You can find your child's OEN number on a past report card.

This year, we had an overwhelming amount of written requests for consideration when building our classes.  As a staff, we worked very hard to accommodate as many requests as we could, while keeping a balance within our classes between gender, social groupings and academic ability.  In the event that you or your child are not initially pleased with the class placement, we respectfully ask that you resist the temptation to call or e-mail school staff to request a change. We believe we have created classrooms where our students can be successful in building new friendships while building on past peer relationships.  Our staff will not be considering any changes to our classrooms, however, we are committed to helping each student transition into their new grade.

Class rosters for the 2018-19 school year will only be revised if we are forced to go through a September reorganization. This news would be communicated to all parents during the second week of school.

Click for 2018-19 Class Lists.

We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to school on Tuesday, September 4th. All students in grades 1-8 will meet their teachers on the blacktop area behind the school.  As always, please park only in the OTHS parking lot, and not in our lot. Teacher names will be on signs at the area where the class will line up. Kindergarten students will meet their teachers in the Kindergarten play area at the front of the school.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, September 4th.
