Save the Date! - April 10, 2019, from 5:45-8:30 pm

New Central and Maple Grove Parent Councils will be offering TASAM "Tackling Anxiety and Stress Through Arts and Mindfulness" parent and child program here at Maple Grove. When to talk, when to listen, when to act!

5:45-6:25 Mindful Movement workshop for both parents & students
6:30-8:30 pm: Speaker Presentation for parents and workshops for students

Using a creative arts approach to education, Arts Express has developed The T.A.S.A.M. Program to provide children and their parents with lifelong strategies and techniques to cope with anxiety and stress, helping them effectively eliminate the stigma and discomfort of these issues for years to come. The evening will begin with families invited to participate in a Mindful Movement class. After this workshop parents are welcome to join us for a presentation by Child and Youth Counsellor and mental health advocate Jennifer Kay to discuss childhood anxiety, parental intervention and how to help your child create the tools needed for a lifetime of Wellness. During the parent talk the children will experience the following workshops; a storytelling performance on the topic of mindfulness called Milton’s Secret, a drama class, and a visual arts workshop, all focusing on helping students use the creative arts to develop a toolbox to use in everyday situations when they encounter stress or anxiety. Topics include:

❖ Identifying the seriousness of your child’s anxiety and stress levels
❖ Tools to use to help alleviate minor everyday anxieties and stress
❖ Kid-friendly approach to developing useful strategies
❖ Leading by example
❖ The importance of exercise
❖ Communicating with your anxious child without frustration
❖ Developing a safe structure within the home environment
❖ Knowing when to seek professional help

Please Sign up on this Google Form so that we can plan the event and set up appropriately.  We look forward to a great family evening together with our neighbours!

Pajama and Socks Drive

posted Nov 22, 2018, 7:44 AM by Gord Donaldson   [ updated Nov 22, 2018, 7:44 AM ]

Did you know that over 18,680 people live below the poverty level here in Oakville? They live with the daily struggle of not being able to provide for their families which can lead to hopelessness, and despair. This year Maple Grove is continuing to support the Pyjama and Sock Drive to help support our community. Last year we collected 394 pairs of pyjamas and socks. Can we beat the record this year?  We have 580 students at Maple Grove, so we hope to get at least 580 items this year!
